Foil Nail Monster

I got Gelish nails a couple of week ago, which I totally recommend, they are bulletproof. They lasted 2 weeks and I really abuse my nails. However, you have to pay to get them taken off, which is a big "No thanks!" for me. Pay to remove it? Boo, why can't I just use polish remover?

Turns out I could! I ended up using this video to learn how and it totally worked! It was also very fun as you can see:

Yay for DIY!

Wednesday and Boscia Blemish Balm

You know what I hate about Wednesdays? The fact that it's the day that people say "Happy Hump Day." People need to stop saying this, no more of that, don't be one of "those" people.

Instead people should say, "Oh hey, it's the middle of week, that sucks." Because it does. In any case, what doesn't suck is beauty blogging, well, except for the picture editing (and the website fixing, okay I lied sometimes it sucks okay?).

The good news is I have kitties and makeup to get me through the week (and to keep me from yelling at "hump day" users.) Those are my cats, it's the momma  and her kitten doing what they do best, sleeping and being adorable. Their names are Caprica (because I'm a nerd) and Zooey (I named her after my girl crush Zooey Deschanel, except I pronounce is, Zoo-ee.)

Well now that we're done with that you probably want me to get on with the beauty blogging right?

I suppose, but you're so demanding!

I am constantly on the hunt for the best new foundation. I don't think I've found one I'm completely happy with yet, though I couldn't tell you exactly what is missing from all of them that I want. I feel like I'll just "know" like when you fall in love! I'll know it's the right one for me.

So, in my constant search for foundation I decided to try Bocia's Blemish Balm. I've never tried any of the original Blemish Balms so I have nothing to compare it to, so I'll just do my own review based on my experience with this alone.

Pros:

  • It covers evenly and makes it almost unnecessary for me to use concealer. I still have to use some in some part of my face but if I'm not nitpicky in the morning I could skip it with this one.
  • Goes on easily and evenly with fingers.
  • Has crazy good SPF.
  • It fit my NC35 nicely, I was nervous since it's a one shade pony.
Cons:
  • You can't put it on with a brush or a sponge, it never looks right!
  • You still have to use concealer if you want a flawless face.
  • I found I needed to set it with a powder, which is fine, I've come to expect it with combo skin!
  • The crazy good SPF? Gives you ghost face in pictures, wanna see?   That's me in the middle with the ghost face! Yay!
If you want something that works along the lines of a tinted moisturizer but with more coverage, this would do it, but I don't recommend it for a night out where pictures will be taken! Unless you like the ghost face, I'm not judging you girl.

Dirty Blush?

Man, I love Nars blushes but it's kind of awkward to title my blog post "Deep Throat" it may attract the wrong people. Nonetheless, even though the blush has a bit of an unsavory name it's what's inside that counts and let me tell you...it's awesome.

I feel like people probably don't need another Deep Throat review so I'll keep it short and sweet, but I'd never tried it before I thought it was too close to Orgasm and worried it wouldn't even show up on my skin. I managed to get my hands on the blush for relatively cheap on someone's blog sale, I figured, what have I got to lose? If I hate it I can swap it away on Makeupalley.

I was so worried I'd made the wrong decision it took me a couple of days to actually try the blush, but the day I did I realized, "This is a perfect Summer blush." For me at least, it's a wonderful light pinky flush of color with a hint of shimmer (which I never mind as long as it's not a glitter bomb.)

I like this blush more than Orgasm and I've been an Orgasm user for 2 years now. This one has a certain, something, I can't put my finger on it. It's a little more subtle, gives me a bit of a glow and is less glittery than Orgasm. I definitely recommend this blush as something to try out for the Olive skinned women out there. I didn't think it would work for me but I've been wearing it everyday since I got it!

C'est Faux?

Well, I guess my last two posts are tied together by their French names! Faux, a nude MAC lipstick, is the culprit for this second french themed post.

I've got to say, as an olive skinned lady I am hard pressed to find a good nude lipstick. Usually they make my lips too white, like I've been hitting the crack, or it's too brown, which isn't nude at all. So, it's funny that although I've been on the hunt for a good nude lipstick for what seems like ages I ended up finding it randomly when I wasn't even looking.

This was a day when I went to the MAC counter to pick up a pre-order. I showed up, credit card in hand ready to pay and walk out. The SA had other things in mind. I had a fun 60's hair do and a thick winged out eyeliner and he says to me, "You know what would complete your look? A nude lipstick." To which I said, well, let me know when you find one that works for me because I'd like to see it.

Next thing I know he hands me Faux and just like So Chaud from the very first swipe I was in lipstick heaven. Faux is a satin finish and it glided on like butter, and while the color in the tube looks like a brown on my pigmented lips it was more of a nudey-pink and it was perfect. He was right, a nude lip did complete my look and I'd actually found a wonderful nude lipstick for the first time ever, by accident.

I think the best part about this lipstick is that it doesn't wash out my face/lips. It serves its purpose as a nude lipstick without being overbearing and unattractive, ahem, Gaga 2. It takes the usual berry color from my lips and covers it in a single swipe, leaving instead an evenly colored nude lip. Perfect.

So Chaud, So Caliente!

A lot of new things have been going on over on this end. I'm sporting my curly hair for the first time in pretty much, ever, recently. It was all thanks for my awesome stylist who gave me my first hair cut tailored to my curly hair. I was apprehensive, but I've gotta say, I'm loving not having to blow dry my hair everyday! ---->

Another new thing going is that I've gotten a promotion at work! It's been really busy and the pay hasn't kicked in yet, but it's also really exciting because I'm really getting a lot of control over how things are done with a new project and that's incredibly exciting.

However, with it comes a lot of moments of frustration and feeling overwhelmed so whenever that happens I feel like I need a pick me up. Sometimes that will be a fun song, a cupcake or even a lipstick. In this case I'd been having a particularly bad day so I went to the MAC counter and said, "If I told you I'm angry what lipstick would you recommend?" and the SA (who is pretty much my make up guru) said, "Oh my God! So Chaud!" I was apprehensive to own another red lipstick, but gave it a try anyway.

I really think this lipstick is aptly named, "Chaud" means "Hot" in french. This is a very "Hot" color. When I saw the color in the tube I thought it leaned too orange to work on me, but I'm not going to lie when I swiped it on it was like my troubles melted away. What bad day? Look at this awesome lipstick I just found! Err, my SA found...haha

So Chaud is a matte and it is definitely a red/orange. Despite being matte it isn't incredibly drying and the lasting power was really impressive (Hello making it through lunch?). Gotta say though the best part about this shade is that it doesn't matter how down you are, you can't be sad when you have an awesome lipstick like this on! I wore it out of the store and got compliments all day. A bum even said to me, "Hey Lady! You got some nice lips there!" to which I responded with scurrying away, but still very nice nonetheless.

I have to say, this lipstick really made my day. It's part of MAC's permanent line so if you've been looking for a red/orange lipstick for your olive skin I'd give this one a try. I got so many compliments with this I don't even care that it's flashy! So go on girl, get you some hobo compliments!
